Strip of Images by Rachel Hunt
January 25 - March 22: Rachel Hunt: reORGANized

An exhibit of sculptural installations by artist Rachel Hunt, a MFA candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield hills, MI. The exhibition includes installations of material that is worked over, torn and rebuilt. Rachel Hunt's installations come from a background in traditional fiber and textile processes, but moves into realms of instalation, sculpture and scientific drawing. A Textile Workshop for Teens with Rachel Hunt is planned in conjunction with the exhibition. Please see workshop details listed in box below.

April:Fine Arts BFA Exhibition

In conjunction with UMass Dartmouth, ArtWorks! exhibits the thesis work of graduating seniors from the Fine Arts area of study working in the media of painting and sculpture. Firm dates and more details coming soon.

May: Artisanry Senior Show

In conjunction with UMass Dartmouth, ArtWorks! exhibits the work of graduating seniors from the Artisanry area of study working in the media of ceramics, jewelry/metals, and textile/fiber. Firm dates and more details coming soon.

June 7 - July 19: X-Country / South County

Artists Derek Harding (Fall River, MA) and Geral Weckesser (San Diego, CA) colaborate on this cross-country exhibition. Each will independently start pieces in their respective studios and ship the work cross country for the other to finish. The resulting sculptures will be exhibited alongside work they have individually created.

July 26- September 13: ( Main Gallery) Art Exposed: From Concept to Completion


This exhibition is meant to illustrate the artistic processes involved behind creating a finished piece of art.  Artists selected will be required to provide a finished piece of work as well as supplemental materials ( drawings, models, etc) that document the creative process.

In Process: TAIP 2008 (Sarah Louise Cousins Gallery)


An exhibition of work made by participants in this year’s Teen Artist Internship Program (TAIP). TAIP is an internship where local high school juniors and seniors are chosen to have an internship with a professional artist. They meet for five hours a week for 8 weeks throughout the summer and at the end of the program there will be a final exhibition of their work at ArtWorks!

September 2-20: (Community Gallery) Photographs by Mark Starr


An exhibition of black and white photography by regional artist, Mark Starr.  This exhibition features a portion of his photography that highlights the community of Point Judith, RI.  Much like New Bedford, Point Judith is a small commercial fishing community where the fishermen rely heavily on tuna, bass, cod, flounder, lobster, scallops for their livelihood. Mr. Starr has spent over a year working with the residents of Point Judith to document modern fishing practices as well as the individual fishermen’s personal stories. Mr. Starr will also be represented at the 2008 Working Waterfront festival on the New Bedford port.

September 27-October 18: (Main Gallery & Sarah Louise Cousins Gallery) SAMPLE: Artists of New Bedford Open Studios


An exhibition that shows a sampling of work made by local artists participating in the 4th annual New Bedford Open Studios weekend. The exhibition features work of all media and represents the quality of artists that are currently working in New Bedford.

                        (Community Gallery) Why I Teach: Art Educators at ArtWorks!


An exhibition that highlights the artwork of some of our art educators.  This exhibit is meant to feature the artwork of the professional artists who shape the young creative minds at ArtWorks!  Each participating artist will submit an original piece of artwork as well as a statement addressing why they teach.                       

November 1- Dec 31: (Main Gallery & Sarah Louise Cousins Gallery) Holiday Exhibition and Sale


A retail exhibition that showcases some of the region’s most productive artists.  This exhibition is just in time for the Holidays and enables visitors to buy local handmade items as gifts.  Shop the gallery for jewelry, hats and scarves, handmade toys, original prints and paintings, and ceramics.
